Well, I'm so happy I could help. I think the thing with this particular problem is to be absolutely relentless about it, but it I know it can be exhausting to keep going out there. Keeping a log is a great idea!

He sits inside in front of the closed front door and barks anytime anyone walks by. We used to let him just bark it out, but frankly, it was pretty annoying and LOUD! So on recommendation of our trainer, now when he starts to bark we kind of just say in a silly/pleasant voice, "It's OK Murphy, or thank you that's enough" or something to that effect and have him lay down. It totally works, it seems to calm him or reassure him that no one's going to invade his turf : )

Awesome thanks Janice. I loooooove researching the breed traits and temperaments, it's my new obsession :) We know he's a pyr because of his massive double dew claws, but even if he didn't have those the barking alone could give it away!

Glad you enjoyed it! Maya doesn't have the dew claws, but her sister does. All of the professionals that have seen her insist that she is a Pyr. So what are you doing about the barking?

Hey! I'm new to the boards. Just curious, is Maya a Great Pyrenees? We just rescued a GP mix and I LOVE them! She's gorgeous : )

    Hi Dena,
    Welcome to the board!

I saw the pic of your dog and was amazed at the resemblance. Maya is a Husky mix. We know the husky for sure, but we suspect there is a whole lot of pyr in her as well. She's a great dog.
